Honourable Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint

Honourable J.C.S. Toussaint was appointed to the Office of Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation on 12 November 2019.
He held the Office of Minister of Youth and Sports from 23 January 2017 to 12 November 2019 and that of Parliamentary Private Secretary, from 23 December 2014 to 23 January 2017.
Honourable Toussaint started his political career in 2003, as a member of the ‘Mouvement Socialiste Militant’. He first became a member of the National Assembly as the 2nd Elected Member of Constituency No. 17, Curepipe and Midlands at the General Election held on 10 December 2014. He held his seat in the National Assembly at the general elections of November 2019.
Being an educator, Honourable Toussaint is using wide ranging experience to guide the Mauritian youth in acquiring those skills that are required to become a well-balanced citizen. His dedication, hard-work and commitment were recognised when he was awarded Best Youth Minister by the International Youth Committee in 2018. Honourable J.C.S. Toussaint has been instrumental to the transformation of the sports sector in Mauritius. Under his leadership, the first ever National Sport and Physical Activity Policy was launched in October 2018.
His vision for a healthy and happy population is proving itself, with a greater number of people now practicing a sport or physical activity. It was during his mandate that the country won the highest tally of gold medals at the Indian Ocean Islands Games 2019, held in Mauritius.
